Last Sience class for the Summer

We made Volcano's!
This was a fun one!
First the kids all made their own mountains with play dough and a small cup.

Next we had them put baking soda inside their mountains. Then they each picked their color of Lava. We put 2 drops of food coloring into their mountains. Finally they poured in vinegar. They loved watching the chemical reaction that took place.
For fun and to review what we learned about volcanoes, we had a target practice game with water balloons.

And of courses we had to end our last science class with a Yummy rice krispi volcano treat.
What a fun 5 weeks of Science we had.
We Sure had fun learning and experimenting!

Our Art Gallery

Well our Art class has come to an end.
We had so much fun. For our last art work shop we had the kids pick their 2 favorite art projects.

Then we helped them display their art work in our Art Gallery. We invited parents and grandparent to come attend. For fun we gave them play money to buy there children's/grand-kids beautiful creations.

All of the children used their play money to buy treats after they showed off their wonderful talents as artist.

So many wonderful and talented kids! We sure had fun teaching them different types, styles and techniques of Art this summer.

Egg Geodes

In science we made Egg Geodes First we let the kids all color and decorate their eggs. Next we let them Dye the outside of their eggs.
Once they were done dying their eggs we cracked the eggs at the top and poured out the yoke and egg-whites. We had to remove the egg membrane that was attached to the inside of the egg.
Next we had the kids mix the 2 ingredients (Epson salt and Hot water) together.
Finally we were ready to pour the salt water mixture into the eggs.

After a few hours we had some pretty amazing Geodes!

Color Wheel

Science this week we learned about the color wheel. We focused on our primary colors. Then we had the kids make a color wheel.
Our 1st experiments was called Amazing Skittles. 1st we had the kids take one of each color of skittle and place them in a circle on a plate. Then we had them pour water on the skittles to cover them. Finially they got to watch the reaction. The easiest way to explain the reaction to the kids was we had them put their palms of their  hands out and against someone else’s palms and lean together it shows the equal amount of pressure. This was the reason the colors stayed and didn't mix.

Then we did our second experiment. This experiment we call Milk Explosion of Color.
1st we gave everyone a bowl of milk. 2nd we added our Primary colors Red,Yellow ,and Blue (food coloring).
3rd we gave each child a Q-tip dipped in detergent.
Finally we had each child slowly dip their Q-tip in the milk.
The reaction was so cool. The molecules twisted, rolled and contorted in all directions as the soap molecules race around to join up with the fat molecule. During all of this Molecule gymnastics, the food coloring molecules are bumped and shoved everywhere, providing an easy way to observe all the invisible activity. As the soap became evenly mixed with the milk the action slowed down and eventually stopped.

And finally to finish up our class we had a fun Wheel of Fortune game for our review.

Finger Painting and Self Portraits.

Art this week we focused on Finger Painting. We taught the kids about Iris Scott and her technique of finger painting. Then we let the kids have at it. They made their Dads some way cute Fathers Day paintings. Shhhhhh don't tell Dad till Sunday though!:) Then we had the kids draw and color self portraits of themselves. We had them look in a mirror and discuss what they saw. We talked about about how wonderful it is that everyone is different, and how the world would be so boring if we all looked the same. We pointed out eye color, skin, and hair. Then we asked the children which features they want to include in their sketch. It was a lot of fun and each child did a wonderful drawing of them selves.
